The Hundred Club of Durango is saddened by the passing of Doug Morrison, our founder.
After the Main Mall Fire and the death of policeman Gale Emerson and Fireman Nick Parks, Doug personally went up and down Main Street getting business owners and citizens to join the Hundred Club.
Doug became the President of The Hundred Club, and served for six years.
He continued to give the club direction as Chairman for the next six years.
Doug’s original vision was for The Hundred Club to evolve into a supportive link between the citizens and the emergency officers of our community.
The Hundred Club really became grounded with a good membership base when Doug invited Gerald Ford to attend our annual banquet in the 1970’s.
We are also very sad at the passing of Bill Mashaw.
Bill served as a board member for over 15 years and was very instrumental in increasing our membership.
When Bill moved we designated him as Emeritus Director.
His mentoring will be missed by many in this club.
Our purpose of helping families who have lost a loved one while in the service of our communities has not changed and in fact has expanded over the years.
We have helped loved ones with financial assistance of over $90,000 and we have provided $20,000 of scholarships to Fort Lewis College.
Our support is very quick and timely without any delay due to administrative red tape.
The recipients of our support have been amazed at our quick response.
It is this nimbleness that makes us special.
The assistance we give helps the families get a new start and know that they have wide community support for their loss
